Lindsey survey

Lindsey is a division of Lincolnshire. The survey was conducted during the reign of Henry I; two others, of Leicestershire and Northampton, were made a little later, between c.1125 and 1130. There is a contemporary text of only the Lindsey survey. Unlike *DB, this survey is organised by *riding and by *wapentake, allowing land belonging to separate fees to be gathered together. It is the source for the knowledge that land was assessed in the northern *Danelaw on a duodecimal system.
